Home Repair Assistance
The Harris County Home Repair Program will provide financial assistance in the form of a grant or deferred payment loan to qualified homeowners under the following categories:
Minor Repair (Grant Funded):
Provides assistance up to $40,000 for home repairs for those within 50% of the median category income for qualified housing including, but not limited to roof repair/replacement, handicap accessibility improvements, mechanical, electrical, weatherization, and plumbing improvements. To be eligible, an applicant must be 62 years or older or have someone with a documented disability in the home at the time of application.
Major Rehabilitation/Reconstruction Category:
In certain designated revitalization areas, up to $80,000 for major rehabilitation or up to $227,000 for reconstruction. The funding assistance for those within the 80% median income is in the form of a grant or interest-only loan depending on the applicant’s income. Various rules apply based on individual circumstances.
Septic or Water Well (Grant Funded):
Provides up to $40,000 for repairing and/or replacing water wells and septic systems that are not functioning or have received health safety violation citations. To be eligible, there is no age limit but all other eligibility requirements must be met. The applicant’s income cannot exceed the 80% level. The property must be located outside the cities of Houston, Pasadena, or Baytown and within the unincorporated area of Harris County or within cooperative cities of Deer Park, Galena Park, Humble, Jacinto City, Katy, LaPorte, Morgan’s Point, Seabrook, Shoreacres, South Houston, Tomball, and Webster.
